Dennis Collins was a former commercial artist originally from Warwickshire, who was employed by Bill Herbert, cartoon editor of the Daily Mirror, as an artist in 1957. In 1958 he co-created (with writer Ben Witham) The Perishers for the northern edition of the Mirror, and drew the strip (mostly written by Maurice Dodd) until his retirement in 1983, when he was awarded a plaque for Humourous Strip Cartoonist of the Year by the Cartoonists' Club. He died in 1990.
