The Judge Dredd annual was published by IPC from 1980 to 1990, dated 1981 to 1991. All annuals starred Judge Dredd and various associated characters including Max Normal, Walter the Wobot, Mean Machine and Judge Anderson in a mix of new stories and 2000 AD reprints (including reprints of the Judge Dredd newspaper strip from the Daily Star). The 1991 annual is notable for featuring the first meeting between Dredd and fellow 2000 AD star Johnny Alpha, the Strontium Dog, while the 1981 annual included the story Shok!, which inspired the 1990 cult movie Hardware. From 1990 to 1994, these traditional hardback annuals were replaced by oversized softcover 'yearbooks' dated 1992 to 1995.
