Pole-Axe, a polar bear with a huge axe, was a genetically engineered talking animal with human-level intelligence. He was one of the 'Yujees' (eugenically engineered lifeforms) who were used as slaves by humans on the dystopian future Earth in which Nick Stone, the Meltdown Man, found himself trapped. Violent, brutal and cunning, Pole-Axe became the leader of a band of brigands after deposing their former chief, Louis the Lionman. He pretended to help Stone and his allies Gruff, T-Bone and Liana lead a rebellion against the cruel despot Leeshar. However, all Pole-Axe ever really wanted was more power for himself. Ultimately his own vicious nature led him to an unpleasant end.
