Notes[]
Octobriana was created by Czech artist Petr Sadecky as part of a literary hoax in 1971; he claimed in Octobriana and the Russian Underground that she was the creation of a dissident group of Russian artists called the Progressive Political Pornography Party (PPP) but in fact, no such group ever existed. Sadecky apparently tricked two friends into co-creating the character originally called 'Amazonia' then stole their original artwork, escaped to the west from his native Czechoslovakia and marketed the character as Octobriana, a fake political statement. The artists, Bohumil Konečný and Zdeněk Burian, eventually sued Sadecky and won but much of their artwork was never recovered. Octobriana is considered to be in the public domain and can be used by anyone; she was incorporated by Bryan Talbot into his epic The Adventures of Luther Arkwright.
