History[]
Jack McBane, known as One-Eyed Jack (for obvious reasons) is the eponymous protagonist of a strip in Valiant which was created as part of the comic's update in 1975. He was a police detective based in New York city in the 1970s who gained his nickname after his eye was shot out by a kid with a gun on the first page of his first appearance, because Jack had tried to talk to the boy rather than immediately shooting him. Following this incident, One-Eyed Jack became decidedly more grim, gritty and uncompromising, displaying a tendency to mete out his own brand of rough justice regardless of whether or not it meant occasionally breaking the rules. (To be fair, his attitude may have been soured by having a nickname which constantly reminded him of his disability.) He later became an operative of the US Military Intelligence Agency.
