History[]
Precious Matson is a character in the 2000 AD strip Strontium Dog — a determined, courageous and intelligent journalist from the mutant colony of Freedonia. She assisted her friend, the Strontium Dog known as Johnny Alpha, in bringing the fanatical terrorist leader William Blood Moon to justice. Later, after Alpha's apparent death, Matson began trying to determine the full truth about his life and death. This led to Precious and Strontium Dog Middenface McNulty discovering that Johnny was actually not dead but trapped in a death-like state. The pair took his body to the Stone Wizards of Zen, who restored Johnny to full health. Without Precious' invaluable assistance Johnny would still be buried in a forest on Zen, but Precious didn't do so badly out of the deal either — her experiences and research became the basis of a best-selling book which "topped the charts galaxywide," repaying the trouble and credits she had spent in the search a thousand-fold.

- Precious is a mutant, but her only mutation is that she has a third, centrally located breast. Which is not terrifically useful, but is probably a conversation starter.
- Precious changes the colour of her hair, lips and eyes regularly, presumably through artificial means.
- It may have been Precious who founded the Matsonian Institute, an academic establishment on the mutant planet of Freedonia.
