Slaughter Bowl

Slaughter Bowl is a comic strip by John Smith and Paul Peart published in 2000 AD in 1993 (progs 842 to 849), as part of the magazine's so-called Summer Offensive. It is a futuristic sports story, a bit like Harlem Heroes, Mean Team or Mean Arena, but with criminals using dinosaurs as steeds while they try to gun each other down. The main character is a man called Stanley Modest, who writes greetings cards for a living. Apparently as bland and innocuous as his name suggests, he is nevertheless convicted of mass murder and is forced into entering the competition by the necessity of raising cash for his wife's medical fees. He surely won't last five minutes in the dog-eat-dog world of Slaughter Bowl if he's innocent... but is he?
