History

The Doctor is one of the Time Lords from the planet of Gallifrey in the constellation of Kasterborus. A restless soul, somewhere near the end of his first incarnation, he became frustrated by the Time Lords' policy of passive observation of the universe, stole a defective Type 40 TT Capsule (a 'TARDIS') that was in for repair, and went out into the universe to explore it for himself. He has been travelling ever since, usually with a variety of companions, battling evil and injustice wherever he finds them. There have so far been thirteen incarnations of the Doctor: the first Doctor, the second Doctor, the third Doctor, the fourth Doctor, the fifth Doctor, the sixth Doctor, the seventh Doctor, the eighth Doctor, the ninth Doctor, the tenth Doctor, the eleventh Doctor, the twelfth Doctor and the War Doctor (an incarnation between the eighth and the ninth which the Doctor has tried to forget).

Fellow travellers

The Doctor's companions past and present include his grandchildren Susan, John and Gillian, Ian Chesterton, Barbara Wright, Vicki, Steven Taylor, Ben and Polly, Jamie McCrimmon, Victoria Waterfield, Zoe Heriot, Liz Shaw, Jo Grant, Sarah Jane Smith, Harry Sullivan, Leela, Romana, Sharon Davies, Adric, Tegan, Nyssa, Turlough, Sir Justin, Gus Goodman, Frobisher, Peri Brown, Mel Bush, Ace, Bernice Summerfield, Grace Holloway, Izzy Sinclair, Destrii, Josephine Day, Rose Tyler, Mickey Smith, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, Gabriella Gonzalez, Majenta Pryce, Amy and Rory, Alice Obiefune, John Jones, Clara Oswald and Captain Jack Harkness, as well as the robot dog K9.

Enemies

The Doctor has fought some of the most evil would-be conquerors in existence, including the Daleks and their creator Davros, The Master, the Cybermen, the Ice Warriors, the Sontarans, the Zygons, the Silurians and their cousins the Sea Devils, the Quarks, the The Weeping Angels, the Voord, the Zarbi, the Celestial Toymaker, the Autons, the Kleptons, the Go-Rays, the Ugrakks, the Vogans and the Trods, Melanicus, the Time Witch, Josiah W. Dogbolter, the Tribe of Gum, Joylove McShane, General Ironicus and The Iron Legion, the Malevilus, the Moderator General and Beep the Meep.

Friends and allies

His allies include U.N.I.T (the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce/Unified Intelligence Taskforce, formerly led by Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart), River Song, Kroton the Cyberman, Abslom Daak, Dalek Killer, the Freefall Warriors, Fey Truscott-Sade, Death's Head, the Paternoster Gang, the Sisterhood of Karn, Brill, Ivan Asimoff, Maxwell Edison, Vesuvius, the Wrarth Warriors, the Menoptera, Jackie Tyler, scrap dealers Flotsam and Jetsam (and their robot, Dutch) and the shadow man Shayde, amongst others spread throughout the universe.

Powers and abilities

Powers

Limited telepathy.

Abilities

If mortally wounded, the Doctor can 'regenerate' his physical form, literally becoming a new man (see gallery for his various different faces). He is currently on his 13th incarnation. He has two hearts and a respiratory bypass system, he can enter a death-like coma at will while his body repairs injuries at an accelerated rate, and he can survive unprotected in space for up to six minutes.

Weaknesses

The Doctor once claimed that an aspirin could kill him.

Paraphernalia

Equipment

Sonic screwdriver; psychic paper.

Transportation

Type 40 TARDIS TT Capsule.

Weapons

None. He hates them.

Notes

The Doctor is the lead character (though not the title character; 'Who' is almost certainly not his name) in the television show, comic strip and all round multimedia franchise Doctor Who. His various incarnations have been played by actors including William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann, Sir John Hurt, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi. He should not be confused with the human scientist Dr. Who (played by Peter Cushing) who appeared in two movie adaptations of previously televised stories.
